Performance

To scrutinize the DMP-BDT110’s image enhancing features, we used one of Disney’s latest 3D blu-ray releases – Tangled.

To start off, the color and details were excellent. Color schemes and hues looked unpretentious and vibrant. From Rapunzel’s astoundingly lifelikeness right down to minor objects such as the texture of grass, every minor fine detail was captured. The 3D effects were equally stunning. Distances between characters and objects were precise and accurate. The space in-between the characters and places in the foreground can be easily estimated to be inches or even miles. The magnificent 3D image quality can be simply summed up in one scene where a rope seemingly falls out of the screen. The DMP-BDT110 delivered a stellar and realistic 3D picture quality without being too overstated or gimmicky.

The audio quality is a fitting complement to its impressive image quality. It’s decoding of the DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 injects life and clarity to a myriad of sounds. With the lossless presentation, a cacophony of sound effects such as rushing water can be heard distinctly. Dialog was also reproduced skillfully to round off a vivid audio performance.

The performances of 2D blu-ray titles were as equally mesmerizing. On the award winning Inception, the French colonial buildings, deserted beaches and even the most mundane rooms are accentuated by vibrant, loud colors, rich blacks and prominent contrast leveling. Even the pores on the actor’s face are clearly visible together with the soft textures in their clothing. Colors and hues come off as natural and lifelike, and the black levels are excellently inky. Even in the darkest parts of a scene, shadow details can still be clearly outlined and defined. The contrast is also in perfect tandem with the impressive whites throughout. Overall, the BMP-BDT110 delivered a well refined and superior movie experience for 2D blu-ray movies.
