Design

The UD9004 is the biggest amongst the Marantz models as it is the flagship brand capable of handling the most features. It uses the same brushed metal design approach and is made of aluminum to make it both durable and appealing at the same time. The power button can be found on the right side while the opposite end stays clean. The reset of the buttons are found on the center where the common buttons are split at two ends with the disc insert found on the middle of the player. The two seek buttons are found below the tray totaling six playback buttons that are enough to operate the player up close.

The info screen can be found directly below those two buttons where all the basic information is displayed. Under that display may seem like nothing is there, but is actually a reinforced resin front panel that can be pulled down to reveal addition buttons including the “Sound Mode“, “Pure Direct“, and other HDMI buttons. The card slot that accepts SD cards is also found there as well. The logos that boast its universal capabilities can be found on the top. Overall the design of the player is solid and makes great use of the space available for people to use easily.

The Marantz UD9004 Blu-ray player stands ground as a complete Blu-ray player with all the latest specifications found in modern Blu-ray players including Profile 2.0 support allowing viewers to view any Internet content that the Blu-ray title can connect to. BONUS View is also supported along with BD-Java which is an advanced form of bonus content.

Unlike the other high-end dedicated Blu-ray players, no Wi-Fi support is provided, but it is possible to still connect to the Internet by plugging an Ethernet cable in the port at the back. USB support is also absent, but the SD memory card slot found on the front is used to save all the content on to any SD or SDHC card for high capacity. In addition, any JPEG, WMA, and MP3 files stored in the SD card can be read and played/viewed.

It includes a DTS decoder and Dolby Digital Decoder completely supporting all the formats like Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS Master Audio, DTS High Resolution Audio, and other formats. Both optical and coaxial digital audio outputs can be found on the back and has advanced analog audio circuits that power the 192 kHz audio converter when HD signals are needed to be sent.

Powerful Blu-ray features are present including the Silicon Optix REALTA HQV video processor. HQV stands for Hollywood Quality Video which is a new benchmark standard for determining the broadcast quality. It utilizes a Realta chip containing several thousands of signal processors for processing dual high-definition streams. There are dual HDMI outputs as well to separate the audio and video outputs for a nice high fidelity playback performance. It also supports 24 fps and the advanced 36-bit Deep Color which is great when paired with a nice TV. The video output can be scaled to any resolution from 480p all the way to 1080p.
