OPPO Releases New BDP-80 Blu-ray Player

Oppo has finally made official its new BDP-80 blu-ray player. It is a cheaper version of the hugely popular BDP-83. It is still more or less a universal disc player featuring BD-Live compatibility, DVD-Audio and SACD playback, aluminum faceplate and some of the audio capabilities of its bigger brother.

Some items are deleted to get the price down to a more affordable $289 are IR in/out, RS-232 control interfaces, and a backlit remote but Oppo still promises fast disc load times, quick response to user operations, and robust audio and video controls. For video, the Oppo BDP-80 features an HDMI 1.3 port that supports 1080p Full HD, 1080p 24Hz, Deep Color and Source Direct modes. Component video, S-Video and Composite video connections are also available for legacy analog displays. And no, it is NOT 3D-capable. That would be asking for too much at this price.

No official shipping date is announced but we expect it to be rather soon. Look out for the Oppo BDP-80 review here as soon as it becomes available.
